internal Threats and Epic Turns Ta-nehisi Coates crafts a brilliant comic in his first turn as writer for Black Panther. The tale addresses tradition, power dynamics, and oppression in a way that brings life and current themes into the comic that I look forward to seeing on the silver screen. Volume 1 sets up a conflict between two nations, a system of oppression between two peoples, and the legacy of the kingdom. I look forward to reading Volume 2.
To be a king I read through a bunch of reviews of this book that didn't think to highly of it. Admittedly, it isn't as action filled as other superhero comics, but those are a dime a dozen. I'm glad that this book ended up being something different because it takes a chance on appealing to a different audience and I think it works wonderfully.First off, this book opens with the Black Panther returning to a broken Wakanda. It's not literally broken; instead it is broken in spirit. The people have lost faith i
Stick with it beyond volume 1 - takes a while to find its feet With the new Black Panther movie looking astonishingly good from its trailers, a timely Amazon sale sent some of the recent comics starring the King of Wakanda tumbling my way.Well, I suppose from 2016, so not the most recent - but the run by Ta-Nehisi Coates has been raved about by fellow fans of T'Challa so it was about time I took a look.I've long been a fan of Black Panther - I tend to gravitate towards heroes who aren't mighty gods or universe-menacing Phoenixes - and so the combination of
I need vol. 2 NOW! This arc starts off in a whirlwind and only gets more exciting as it unfolds. It's like a four-sided chess match. Where will all the pieces fall? Well, I'm going to wrap up this review so I can get vol 2 and find out. Awesome story and the art is amazing as well.
Wonderfully entertaining I'm new to the Black Panther universe, and this is the first I've read. I loved it - easy to digest for new-comers to Black Panther or even to comics. I'm a middle-aged woman, and this series introduced me to an area I would never have known. Wonderfully entertaining, and easy to read on my Kindle Fire - the Comixology bit works well.
And the graphics are AWESOME, they don't just support or illustrate a new ... All the stars, plus more.. I teach and work - where kids deserve and need this sort of stuff. Not for nothing, I think of Coates as an educator first. It is entertaining, and thoughtful - and also complex and pollemical. You pick how to work your experience. And the graphics are AWESOME, they don't just support or illustrate a new world. The art communicates WITH the words, and transmits it to us.If you appreciate this, are interested - look into Ta-Nehisi Coates, you can read so much of his wor
My first Marvel comic does not disappoint I’ve never been a big comic book reader. In fact, I didn’t read my first comic book until 2016. I needed a comic written and/or drawn by a POC for the Book Riot Read Harder challenge and with the movie release, this seemed like the perfect choice. It was wonderful. I enjoyed the story arc and the illustrations are incredible. Great color and imagery. I’m looking forward to Vol. 2, although I could have done without the classic Fantastic Four issue at the end. I did not enjoy that.
Great Book The size and format of this book is perfect to carry around. It was well written and easy to read.
