It is not as chunky as previous brands I’ve used, BUT it is light and airy with great drainage. I have a moisture meter and my plants never read too wet with this soil mix. As for the smell! That is known as hydrogen sulfide. It happens when soil becomes wet and has no drainage or air flow.
